Shallow Water Table Jet Well Pumps and Deep Submersible Water Well Pumps

Water is essential to life and if your property is getting its water from a well, then you are aware of the need of a reliable water well pump. For those who are unfamiliar with a water well, it is an excavation or structure created in the ground by digging, boring, driving or drilling to access ground water in underground aquifers. The well water is drawn by a pump to transport the water from the ground to the appropriate areas on the property and into the home. Every day water use is dependent on the proper functionality of the well’s water pump. The most common types of well water pumps are the jet pump and the submersible pump.

Shallow Water Table Jet Water Well Pump

Depending on where the water table sits in your area will determine what type of pump will work best for you. A shallow water table often requires a jet pump. Jet pumps are usually mounted above the well and draw the water up from the well through the suction. Once atmospheric pressure kicks in, the pump acts as a vacuum, sucking up the water through the pipes and into the home. The jet pump is effective with shallow wells that range down to about twenty five feet deep. Jet pumps are powered by an electric motor that helps move the water from the well to the home. To keep water in the jet pump and prevent water from flowing down into the well, a one way check valve is installed in the feed line of the pump. This will help prevent any serious issues with the jet pump.

Deeper Water Table Submersible Water Well Pump

If you live on a property where the water table happens to be deeper than twenty five feet then you will need to use a submersible pump rather than going with the jet pump. A submersible water pump has a long cylindrical shape that fits inside of the well casing. The bottom half is made up of a sealed pump motor that is connected to the above ground power source and controlled by wires. Submersible pumps have proven to be much more efficient than jet pumps and are known for their reliability.
