Different Types of Water Filters
Countertop Water Distillers
This is a portable appliance that heats the water, and turns the steam into water in a different container. It isn’t a very practical choice since it uses a lot of energy to operate, and it doesn’t remove any chemicals and only some bacteria. Water distillers will remove minerals and particles, but they don’t do it very quickly. It takes about an hour to get 1 gallon of water.
Carbon Filters
This type of filter can be found in pitchers, sink mounted models, under the sink models, or even whole house systems, and is a popular one in many houses across the country. The use of the porous material, carbon, is great at absorbing several impurities that are found in your water as the water passes through it. Reverse Osmosis Filters
These filters are usually found underneath your sink and have a semipermeable membrane that works with a carbon filter to remove many chemicals and other contaminates that a carbon filter might miss when it is used alone.
Whole House Ultra Violet (UV) Light Water Filter
These filters use Ultra Violet Light to purify water. They are not effective at removing chemical pollutants or spores. They are mostly used to kill bacteria and viruses, and will improve the odor of your water.
