Being able to have a good working plumbing system is an important part of living a comfortable life. This is what gives you the water that you use in your home to cook, clean and even drink. You also likely appreciate being able to use the bathroom in a clean and comfortable spot and not dealing with the sewer system. When there is a problem with your plumbing it can be a damper on your life and how you are living. There are small leaks in the faucets that are easy to handle and other leaks can be difficult to deal with. One of the issues can be from a septic tank that is being used on your property. If you have a leak there are things that you might be able to look for when you need to have repairs made. AAA Water Team outlines what you can look for when determining a leak in your septic system.
High Water or Sewer Bill Due to Leak
One of the easiest things that you can do to determine if you have a leak in your septic system is to look at your water bill. The water that you are using should be similar from month to month without much of a fluctuation. There can be if you are filling your pool or some other major event otherwise you want to be sure that the bill is around the same usage. When you look at the bill and you see a jump in the water that you are using it means often times that there is a leak in your system. The leak can be hidden so that you are not seeing the water sprouting out all over your yard. If you have some concern you also can look at the actual meter on the water to see if it is moving at a faster pace than is needed. If you see an uptick you want to call to have your septic system inspected and repaired.
Water Stains & Mold Spots from Leak
The hard thing about a water leak or the septic tank leak is that they are not something that you can see outright. They are hidden in the ground and behind the walls. The issue is that you want to make sure that you know what to look for in terms of signs. The difficult thing is that the sign is often water stains that you start to see on your ceiling or floors. These stains can also lead to mold growing as well. If you notice that you are getting any water staining you want to make sure that you call out a professional right away that can detect the leak and make sure that it is repaired.
Septic Tank Odor
Another thing that tends to be a good way to determine if you have a septic leak is the odor that it leaves behind. When water is leaking somewhere the odor can be musty and moist as well as the smell of mold. If you notice an unusual odor you want to make sure that you do not have an water leak from your septic system.
